This gasket seals the inlet tract at the cylinder face, preventing unmetered air from bypassing the reed valve and entering the crankcase. A leaking reed valve gasket causes a lean condition that is difficult to correct with jetting alone and can ultimately lead to engine seizure. Replace at every reed valve removal.
