The reed valve acts as a one-way check valve at the inlet port — it opens under intake vacuum to allow air\/fuel mixture into the crankcase and snaps closed under crankcase pressure to prevent backflow. The performance of the reed valve directly affects power output across the RPM range: worn, fatigued, or cracked reeds cause power loss, poor throttle response, and difficult starting.
